Introduction to Chromium-Carbide Cr3C2 Pulp
Chromium carbide
This inorganic compound has the molecular structure Cr3C2 (molecular weight 180). It’s a grey powder with a homobic system. A =2.821; B =5.52, D =11.46. The melting point for this powder is 1890 while the boiling point at 3800 is 3800. The micro-Vickers hardness, load 50 g is 2700kg/rnrn2, the thermal expansion coefficient of 10.3×10-6/K.
It exhibits good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. It’s a type cermet. Due to its exceptional high-temperature properties, it’s widely used in thermal spraying materials for metal protection processes and as an additive in cemented carbid industry.
Chromium Carbide Cr3C2 Pulp has Physical Properties
Many excellent properties of chrome carbide are: strong chemical stability; high-temperature toughness; thermal hardness; acid and alkali resistance resistance; wear resistance. Also, it has an extremely high melting point. Chromium carbide can also be used as an inhibitor to control grain growth in cemented carbide.
Furthermore, chromium carbide is a strong abrasion resistant of explosive bonding agent additives. It is used extensively in the aerospace industry, electronics industry, high temperature resistant coating, aerospace, as well as other industries.
Chromium carbide is a common surface coating in cutting tools. Chromium carbide, an important precipitated component in Fe-Cro-c alloy, is what makes this material very durable.

Chromium Carbide Cr3C2 Pulver Preparation
Carbonization of metal chromium powder:
A 325 mesh metal chromium powder was obtained by grinding carbon Black at 13.5%64% (mass) ratio. (More than the theoretical combined carbon contents of 11.33%). It is then dried mixed with a Ball Mill to make it. Use 1%-3% stearic as the forming oil. Do not pressure mold more than 1 T/cm2. Pressurized molding powder is used to mold graphite into crucibles, with Taman furnaces (or induction heating furnaces at -35), in hydrogen flow. Keep it for one hour, until chromium carbonization reaction and chromium caride generation. After cooling, chromium cride can be produced.
It is 3Cr + Cr2C – Cr3C2.
Chromium carbide Cr3C2 powder applications
1. Useful for carbide additives, such as the tungsten carbide based carbide grains refiner, so that they can be used in mining, processing and other areas.
2. These can also be used in welding additives. This welding rod is made from chromium carbide and can be used for surfacing welding of certain mechanical equipment such as jaw plates, coal mills, ball mills, etc. This can increase the equipment’s service life by severalfold.
3. Useful for thermal spraying metals to protect their surfaces.
