Magnequench Neodymium Powder

Neodymium (Nd) is one of the rare earth metals. It is a magnetic element that is used to produce very strong permanent magnets, and is also found in some laser crystal substances like neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG). It has several interesting properties which make it a useful material in its powder form.

Our neodymium metal powders are produced from Magnequench’s patented RE-Fe-B alloy compositions which are rapidly solidified from the molten state at extremely high cooling rates, on the order of 1,000,000 degrees per second. This results in a material with an isotropic grain structure which makes it ideally suited for producing bonded permanent magnets in a powder form.

The most common use for neodymium is the production of permanent magnets, which utilize the high saturation magnetization and magnetic anisotropy of neodymium. These magnetic materials are used in a wide variety of applications such as speakers, electric motors and generators and hard disk drives.

Safety Considerations:

Neodymium is not considered to pose any significant health hazards when handled under normal conditions. However, it may irritate the skin or eyes in sensitive individuals.

Fire Hazards:

Flammable in the form of dust or powder. It will react with oxidizing agents, acids and halogens. May burn vigorously in halogen vapors above 392 F, and may re-ignite after fire has been extinguished. Can react violently with water under certain fire conditions liberating hydrogen gas.
